FAQs: Powerlifting in Dubai

Where can I powerlift in Dubai?

Al Quoz is Dubai's powerlifting hub, with several gyms offering competition platforms, calibrated plates and specialty bars. JLT and Dubai Investment Park also have strong barbell gyms.

How much does a powerlifting coach cost in Dubai?

Specialist powerlifting coaches charge AED 300–500 per session, with monthly programming-plus-coaching packages from AED 1,000–2,500. Group barbell clubs offer coached sessions at AED 100–150.

Can beginners start with powerlifting?

Yes — the squat, bench and deadlift are learnable from day one with coaching. Beginners typically add 40–80kg to their total in the first six months. Start with technique-focused sessions before chasing numbers.

Are there powerlifting competitions in the UAE?

Yes — sanctioned meets run several times yearly in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, with novice divisions. Your coach can handle attempt selection and meet-day strategy for your first competition.

Do I need special equipment to start?

Just flat-soled shoes and consistency. As you progress: a lifting belt (AED 200–500), knee sleeves and wrist wraps. Serious gyms provide bars, platforms and chalk.
