Who is Morten?

Morten Andersen is a senior fitness editor at GetFitDXB and a genuine lifer in the gym. For 25 years he has trained consistently — not as a fad or a New Year's resolution, but as a daily habit that has followed him from Scandinavian strength halls and spin studios to the boutique reformer rooms and air-conditioned megagyms of Dubai.

His training is deliberately broad. Morten came up under the barbell — squats, deadlifts and presses are still the backbone of his week — but two and a half decades of curiosity took him well beyond the weights room. He has clipped into countless spin classes, held more sun salutations than he can count, and spent years on the Pilates mat and reformer working on the control, breathing and core strength that keep a lifelong lifter healthy. That combination of heavy iron, high-intensity cycling, yoga and Pilates gives him an unusually complete view of what actually works for ordinary people who want to stay strong, mobile and pain-free for decades.

That range is exactly why he writes the way he does. Morten has been the beginner standing nervously by the squat rack, the spin regular chasing a personal best, and the stiff lifter who discovered that a weekly yoga class fixed the back niggle no amount of foam rolling could. He understands fitness from the inside out — across disciplines, across decades, and across the very different bodies and goals people bring to the gym.

Since relocating to the UAE, Morten has made it his mission to map Dubai's fitness scene properly: which gyms have the equipment serious lifters need, which studios teach reformer Pilates well rather than just expensively, where the best spin and yoga classes actually are, and how membership prices really compare once you strip away the marketing. He visits the places he writes about and asks the questions a 25-year gym-goer knows to ask.

His editorial standard is simple: no hype, no paid rankings, and no recommending anything he wouldn't train at himself. If a gym made the list, there's a reason — and Morten will tell you exactly what it is.

How Morten Reviews

After 25 years in gyms, Morten has a low tolerance for marketing and a high standard for the basics: clean equipment, well-taught classes, fair pricing and staff who actually know their stuff.

  • Every gym and studio is judged on first-hand visits, not press releases
  • Recommendations span all levels — from first-timers to advanced lifters
  • Cross-disciplinary view: weights, spin, yoga and Pilates under one roof
  • Honest pricing breakdowns with no affiliate-driven rankings
  • Tested in real Dubai conditions — heat, Ramadan timing and peak-hour crowds
  • Form, longevity and injury-prevention come before ego lifting

"I've trained almost every day for 25 years — heavy barbells, spin bikes, yoga mats and the Pilates reformer. That mix taught me there's no single 'best' way to train, only the right fit for your body and your week. My job is to help you find it in Dubai."

Morten works alongside founder Fredrik Filipsson to keep GetFitDXB's guides accurate, current and genuinely useful — splitting editorial duties across the site so every recommendation is grounded in real training experience.

If you've ever felt lost choosing between a cheap chain gym, a premium club or a boutique studio, Morten's guides are written for you.
